Our Philosophy

Holiday Hill Day Camp takes pride in the purposeful focus we place on the relationships forged between our Campers, Counselors, and Instructors. It truly sets the tone for fostering your child’s independence, confidence, and critical thinking skills. We offer both quality daily activities in diverse content areas and also exciting special events across our programming. Our staff strives to ensure that our shared values of teamwork, respect, kindness, honesty, and personal responsibility embody all we do.

Meet the Administrative Staff


Michael Youngman, Director:

Michael has worked at Holiday Hill for 9 years.  He was the director of YMCA Camp Mt. Laurel and the Hamden Green Dragon Camps for a combined 8 years.  During the school year he works for the New Haven Public Schools as a Magnet Resource Teacher.


Mathew Nierenberg, Aquatics Director:

Mathew has 27 years of aquatic experience.  Most of those years have been at Camp Laurelwood as waterfront and aquatics director.  He have been a lifeguard and swim instructor since the age of 16.  During the year Mathew works as a Special Education/PPT chairperson for the city of New Haven.  Mathew has a wife and two boys.    


Melissa, CIT/Upper Camp Director:

Melissa Rhone is starting her first summer working at Holiday Hill, though as a kid spent a couple of summers as a camper! She works as a 5th grade teacher for Cromwell Public Schools during the school year. She has a husband and two children. 


Karissa Stolzman, Lower Camp Director:

Karissa has worked at Holiday Hill for the past 10 summers as an administrator. Prior to working at Holiday Hill, she spent her summers working as a summer school reading teacher. During the school year, Karissa the Assistant Principal at Brennan Rogers Magnet School in New Haven,


Joe Raffone, Project Adventure Director:

Joe has been working at Holiday Hill for the past 13 years as the Ropes Course Director.  Over those 13 years the ropes course has dramatically changed from just a few low elements, to now include 19 high elements and 22 low elements.  Joe  has been teaching Physical Education with a focus on adventure learning in New Haven Public Schools for past 19 years.


Carolyn Levy RN, BSN:

Carolyn has been a pediatric nurse for the past 13 years and has experience in hospital, school and camp settings.  She previously spent her summers at Camp Laurelwood and is very excited to be starting her second year at Holiday Hill Day Camp. During the school year, Carolyn works as a school nurse at Ezra Academy in Woodbridge, CT and is a Pediatric Nurse practitioner student at Stonybrook University


Kasia Tubis, Assistant Aquatics Director:

Kasia has been a lifeguard and swim instructor at Holiday Hill for the past six years. She recently started the junior lifeguard program for the older campers, inspiring them to remain safe around water. During the school year, Kasia teaches Biology, Anatomy and Forensic Science at Sacred Heart Academy, and coaches the girls swim team in the fall. Kasia plans on going back to school this year to become a Naturopathic Doctor.
